There’s something that makes me want to do cartwheels when I hear about a regular person, a lay person, who feels called to do more and does it.
That’s how we all want to be, isn’t it? We want to hear the call clearly and be faithful in answering that call.
That’s how Better For Kids got started.
Here’s what they are doing–they partner with local churches and believers in Egypt and Ethiopia to share Jesus through caring for orphans and vulnerable children and families.
Their orphan home right outside of Cairo in Mokattam, Egypt is currently a home to 42 children. Because adoption is not legal in Egypt, there are more than 1 million children living on the streets. But, there are 42 less on the streets because of what they are doing.
Near the village of Zeway in Ethiopia, 20 live under the care of house mothers. Not only do they now sleep in beds with blankets and eat 3 meals a day, but they attend school and are growing into children of compassion themselves.
And, the impact of their work is being exponentially multiplied as these children grow under their care.
They have an Etsy store where they sell hand-stamped pieces with the letters BFK — all proceeds support their work.
I’ve got a necklace myself–it’s long and simple and looks cute on (though I promise you that having my 7-year-old take a picture of it on me turned out to be a picture I just wouldn’t want to share with you all).
But, more than being cute, I love what it stands for. And, I wear it and know that in so doing, I’m somehow a part of their work. It’s just a small way, but I’m standing with them.
And, you can too.
That’s all you gotta do to enter.
And, you have until Sunday the 13th at 9pm EST to do it–which is only 2 days away. So, get on it.
I’ll choose a winner using random.org after that.
And, go ahead, go buy something from the folks over at BFK knowing that you can wear or give a funky little something and be able to share how you supported children across the world with your purchase.

My giveaways before Christmas seem to be growing. More, more to come. Don’t forget to come back and enter each and every one–and share the links, okay?

Love the necklace and I love the meaning behind it !!!!

I think that carrying a BFK tote would be beneficial to the ORG. It’s on my wish list.
I’d love to wear something from BFK to know that I am representing what they stand for & the impact they are having on Orphans in Egypt & Ethiopia – what an awesome thing!!
It’s hard just loving one (former)orphan…let alone dozens…how the heart of God smiles on them. :)
I liked the sterling silver necklace. I hope the Egypt learns the positives of adoption and soon allows those kids to have a home. Until then, thank goodness for places like BFK!
Wearing a necklace from BFK would be such a good reminder that there is more to this life I am living than me, me, me.
I’d like to wear these initials b/c they have meaning behind them

Anything ordinary can do to make the world better for kids is a good thing. Love the necklace!
What a powerful message and a fabulous organization. It touches my heart to see how much of a difference just one person’s ideas can make in the lives of others. I love all the necklaces. This shop definitely makes it onto my list of places to shop for gifts. :-)
I love the braided bracelet!

The photos just grab my heart. And to think that adoption is illegal in some places… heartbreaking. Keep up the good work, BFK! Jesus sees!
I would like to wear this jewelry because it’s really cute.
THAT is awesome. I think that just making small differences for the least of these adds up!
I would like to wear a piece of their jewelry because I think it would be a really good conversation piece. It would give me another chance to tell people about the plight of the orphan in yet countries i haven’t known anything about, and what these orphans need from us.
I would like to wear this because it is beautiful on many levels :)

I like to wear clothes and jewelry that share the heart of our Lord, support children in need and give opportunity for discussion. :-) Chris
I don’t know how I might have discovered the Better For Kids organization had I not read your blog post. I’m grateful that I did, even more so because today, the 12th, is my birthday!! What a wonderful way to begin my new year. I think their work is what Jesus would have us all do. It is love manifest.
I’m signing up for your blog and the BFK’s site as well. Thank you for telling their story.
Wearing this beautiful jewelry is a way to help spread the word about BFK, because their pieces are so lovely, people would comment on it. It’s a win, win. Feel good, do good and look good, too? That’s a perfect combination!
Having that necklace would remind me to be thankful for what I have, for some unlucky child doesn’t have a bed to sleep in and 3 meals a day like the children do.

I love to wear things (clothing, jewelry, ect) that are meaningful and give me peace of mind (yes I ment that spelling!) this does just that. I love that everytime someone asks what the enitials are (thinking probably that they are yours or your kids ect) that you can then explain about the children – just wonderful. What a opportunity!

their pieces are cute!!! And it’s a great feeling knowing that you are supporting something way beyond a local brand!
I would be honored to wear this proudly to support BFK. I am a classroom teacher and work extremely hard for children and for many childrens’ organizations. Thank you so much for spreading this story and God Bless.
Your stuff is gorgeous! Is there any other reason?? Thanks for the great giveaway!

With so many companies offering donationg a portion of their profits to good causes, I find it very hard to buy something from a company that does not do this. I’d proudly wear this necklace! I find it heart-warming and extremely generous that BFK donates 100% of the proceeds to children in Egypt and Ethiopia. Just amazing…
