happy birthday to Mark

9.12.08

Mark at 9 weeks old and Mark now.

Yesterday Mark turned a whopping 37. His birthday is always a bittersweet day. In 1999, Mark’s dad, Miles, passed away after fighting cancer for a year. He died on Mark’s birthday. So, though we celebrate Mark’s birthday on September 10th, we also remember his dad and miss that he’s not around and that he never got to meet his grandchildren.

We gave Mark a big tub of peanut butter cups (gave him the same thing last year…and he loved them), two t-shirts from J.Crew (love their soft tees), the game Risk (he’s been wanting to play that one with Evan), and a gift certificate for a 5 minute helicopter ride (I’m particularly excited about this one as was he!).

walter the farting dog

9.10.08

Yes, you read that post title correctly. Evan came home from school today with the library book entitled “Walter the Farting Dog.” Nice. Since it was a beautiful day, we stopped in the park, sat on the bench, and read his book. Quite a tale about a dog from the pound who farted all the time. Right when his family was going to return him due to his terrible stench, robbers come to the house and Walter farts on them, scaring them away and saving the day. Hmmmm. The inside flap says: “Warning: this book may cause flatulence.” What happened to old classics like Curious George and Berenstein Bears?

Our warning

9.9.08

Evan woke up rather grouchy this morning. I said to Mark, “Please pray for a change in his attitude this morning. I don’t want to take him to school again like this.” Not long after, I heard Mark yelling from upstairs for me to come up. I came up to find Evan smiling from ear to ear holding….his central incisor (for those of you who don’t have to google names of teeth for your children, this was his front lower tooth that was blogged about a few days ago!). Evan had been brushing his teeth when he asked Mark, “what’s that?” Laying on the toilet seat was his tooth! It fell out during brushing with NO blood! Evan was so excited! He put it in super tooth (the boy version of a tooth fairy doll) and couldn’t wait to show everybody at school today! I said to him, “you know what this means? You are getting big.” He said, “It’s like a warning that I’m growing up.” :) Who knew that our answer to prayer would be Evan’s first lost tooth. No tears today at drop off.

9.8.08

Any readers out there use the momagenda planners? I’m trying to decide if I want the spiral notebook version or the binder version. Post comments with ideas please!

Hello

I overthink everything. This blog is a prime example. Make yourself a cup of coffee and sit down for a read. Actually, make that a pot of coffee. There’s a lot of overthinking here.
