Mid-Atlantic Orphan Summit from CoMission for Children at Risk on Vimeo.

I’d really like to go. I’m thinking creatively about the money.

Anyone else going?

Sunday Snapshot: {a gaggle of kids and goodbye to the Jeep}

9.20.10

Remember Mark’s and my shaweet date night to P.F. Changs? Well, it wouldn’t have happened without our cool friends, the Hopples, who gladly take on our 3 kids overnight to add to their 3 (soon to be 4) kids so that we can take a deep breath (and dote on Lydia alone).

Well, Friday night was our turn to take on the troops. If you can take the sheer volume, it’s an awesome time. 7 is honestly easier than 4—for a night, at least.

And, just when we thought the weekend couldn’t get more exciting, we bought a new car (well, new to us. It’s a 2006).

I hate buying new cars.

But, I know Mark needed one. Apparently, having no air conditioning and a rusted out bottom so that your feet got wet when it rained was no longer making him feel like he had a decent ride. So, we said goodbye to the old Jeep Cherokee and said hello to a Subaru something or other.

The kids love it. Their favorite thing–cup holders in the back.

Mark has a bunch of favorite things. But, I think one of his favorites is the seriously open moon roof.

My favorite thing. It’s clean….at least for now.

You know what though–it’ll stay clean since the kids will primarily ride in my swagger wagon and throw all their twizzler wrappers, fruit snack bags, and leftover pretzel sticks (which they subsequently will step on) on my floor (not to mention the leaking sippy cups and gazillion stickers stuck to the window next to Drew’s seat).

Do you sense a little jealousy over the new set of wheels?
No, no.
Maybe I’m just defensive for the Jeep’s sake. For some reason, trading in cars is emotional for me. Have no idea why. It’s just a thing. And, this particular thing really holds no particular memory for me–no babies came home in the Jeep, no special family trips in it. But, for some reason, I feel sad to not see it again. I knew the exact sound of it’s engine coming down our driveway telling me Mark was home–maybe that’s why I feel sad to let it go.
I’m glad Mark will have a good car to serve him well as he drives to and fro work. Guess I’ll get to know it’s rumble soon enough. And, Evan, hope you like it, because we’re thinking it’ll be yours in 8-10 years.

Thursday’s Things to Pray For

9.16.10

  1. Praise for a great report for Lydia this morning with the adoption specialists at CHOP! Lydia is growing and developing wonderfully–we thought this was so, but it was fun to have them confirm it.
  2. Pray for the details to be worked out so that we can schedule Lydia’s procedure to get tubes in her ears. And, pray that the tubes would restore her hearing.
  3. Pray for me personally — I’ve found the schedule this week particularly grueling (Lydia has appointments 4 out of the 5 mornings this week). I feel like I’m constantly behind. Pray that I could prioritize and give myself grace and be granted grace as things have to wait or get missed.

Click here to learn more about Thursday’s Things to Pray For. Pray for me, for these things I list. And, leave me a comment to let me know you did if you don’t mind. It would be a great encouragement. And, I invite you to do the same on your blog.

Hello

I overthink everything. This blog is a prime example. Make yourself a cup of coffee and sit down for a read. Actually, make that a pot of coffee. There’s a lot of overthinking here.
