Tallest sunflower in Phoenixville?

8.20.08

We thought we may have had a gold medal winner with this one. Turns out we don’t. A sunflower grown in the Netherlands holds the record for being the tallest sunflower in the world. It measured 25 feet, 5.4 inches. Okay, that makes Ashlyn’s flower seem like a midget. But, before we knew that fact (what did we do without the internet?), her flower looked enormous. It seemed like it was growing right before our eyes. Ashlyn has been very proud of her plant, having grown it from a seed in a little dixie cup from Grammy. All the crazy green around the bottom includes Evan’s pumpkin plant and Drew’s watermelon plant (and a whole bunch of weeds–I’m just not so into gardening in this season of life).

trip to maryland

8.14.08

Just some pictures of our trip to Maryland these last few days. We did lots of “fun stuff” as Evan would say–my niece Audrey and nephew Bohdan’s baptisms, the Maryland Science Center (very cool–we’ll be back there again using our membership to Franklin Institute to get in free!), walking around inner harbor, touring the USS Constellation (a Civil War battleship), touring a submarine (boy, are they tight quarters!), the National Cryptologic Museum at NSA (lots of war stuff and decoding gadgets), and the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore (Evan and Ash rode a real camel!!). Loads of fun! I’m beat!

Babies R Us BPA bottle trade

8.8.08

You may have heard in the news of a chemical agent called BPA that is harmful that has been found in plastics such as water bottles and baby bottles. Some have argued that it can cause cancer, hyperactivity, learning impairments, etc. Some people feel very upset about it being in baby products, some people don’t care as much. It’s always something, isn’t it?

But, you may be interested in knowing that Babies R Us is currently offering a voluntary recall of BPA bottles. I went there today and exchanged 6 old Avent bottles (used for all 3 of my kids and missing the original nipples even!) for 6 brand new ones (no receipt needed!). Each Babies R Us seems to have their own rules about the trade-in program. Mine had a limit of 6 and required that you exchange them that day for 6 new BPA free bottles (typically more expensive). So, if you exchanged 6 old Avent bottles for 6 new BPA-free Avent bottles, you would owe some money. I exchanged 6 Avent bottles for 2 Avent bottles, 1 MAM bottle, and 3 Evenflo bottles and only owed $2.66. Now, I have 6 brand new bottles of 3 different brands to try when we eventually get our new baby! Gotta love that. So, if you (or someone you know!) has any old bottles that you want to trade in, do it before this offer ends!

Steven Curtis Chapman’s Good Morning America Interview

8.8.08

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wh2VFkF7NLo

This is the link to Good Morning America’s interview with Steven Curtis Chapman and his family regarding the death of their little girl Maria. I cried watching it. Besides just being a heartbreaking story, it made me view my parenting a bit differently. I hope my kids will one day be as faithful and wise as their children. What an amazing testimony they have in the midst of tremendous suffering.

Hello

I overthink everything. This blog is a prime example. Make yourself a cup of coffee and sit down for a read. Actually, make that a pot of coffee. There’s a lot of overthinking here.
