Drew’s morning

7.20.09

7:45 AM – A pirate complete with sword attached with packaging tape and dragon rain boots (also note the Indiana Jones costume on the floor that was shed about 20 minutes earlier)

9:00 AM – Army guy with machine gun and scary face ready for battle

9:35 AM – Spiderman throwing webs

10:05 AM – A diver getting ready to jump in the ocean

Diver suit was too hot, so 5 minutes later…
10:10 AM – Batman ready to fly off and fight yuck guys

10:35 AM – Buzz Lightyear with only one boot cover…couldn’t find the other one

The end of an era

7.19.09

Recovering today after 3 days of hard labor and some fun as I helped my parents do a huge (massive) yard sale as they prepare to put their house on the market and “downsize” to a luxury townhouse. Today, I feel a bit emotional as I think about all the things that were sold, old things that none of us wanted but still were part of our lives in one way or another. I wish my parents could have just kept it all forever–well, maybe not all. Don’t know why really. Just hate to see it go. I find myself thinking of specific things today wondering if we should have kept them. Hate that.

Update: Apparently, I’m not the only one thinking of things that are gone. My mom got upset last night when she realized that she put out there all her curtain sewing patterns which she will need for her new house. They didn’t sell and were among the donations to Christian Services at the end. She and Dad actually went over there this morning and retrieved it from the pile of stuff not yet sorted! And, she grabbed two other things for me….

kid quotes

7.12.09

Note–the only pose Drew will do for a picture is his pirate face.

Evan: “I wish I had like 10 arms so that I could do a lot of things at once.”

Mama: “Well, that’s sorta funny since you never know what to do with the two arms you have.”
——–
(Drew has just made some potty humor…)
Mama: “Drew, please stop making those jokes. We don’t talk about that.”
Drew: “Why? It’s healthy.”

Cow Appreciation Day 2009

7.10.09

When I was little, I distinctly remember digging through the trash cans at Roy Rogers (and even the dumpster!) to get little peel off things from the bottom of the cups that had free food on it. I remember jumping up and down yelling, “Ohh! I got a free fries!” and “A free soda!” My older sister and I actually gathered enough of those free food peel off thingies to have our family of 5 have a whole meal–without us having to share an order of fries! We tease my mom about it now.

Well, today was a bit different but it did make me remember Roy Rogers trash picking. Today was Cow Appreciation Day at all Chick Fil As. If you dress like a cow, you get a free combo meal! So, we spent most of the morning coming up with our costumes including tails and floppy black ears and then headed out as a herd. We had to stop at the post office which was comical. Evan told me to just speak to them with “moo”s. As we arrived at Chick Fil A, they rang a cowbell as we came in. And, sure enough, a completely free lunch for all of us–and we didn’t even have to share an order of fries. Sweet.
p.s. yes, Ashlyn’s ears are zebra ears. At least they are black and white.
p.s.s. entered Drew’s picture in Chick Fil A’s photo contest online which is judged solely by how many votes a picture gets. SO, go HERE and vote for silly faced Drewsy so we can get some more chick fil a food!

Hello

I overthink everything. This blog is a prime example. Make yourself a cup of coffee and sit down for a read. Actually, make that a pot of coffee. There’s a lot of overthinking here.
