Two Broads Design for The Sparrow Fund

5.13.11

Two Broads design button
When I saw this piece in their etsy store, I couldn’t resist contacting them and asking them to join us for our May fundraising drive.
Isn’t that sweet? And, for only $14.
And, I’m so tempted by this one.
You can have up to 4 eggs in the nest for only $20. For those mamas out there with more than 4 baby birds in their nest at home, sorry. You might have to do a bracelet too or something.
Two Broads Design was started by two longtime friends. Jen is the logical, mathematical type but still loves to sit down and watch Spiderman for the 70th time. Lindsey is the artistic, loud laugher who loves bright shiny things and the macabre. Their friendship has lasted throughout the years of junior high, high school and now into their adulthood. Lindsey’s love of shiny objects such as crystals and beads started to rub off on Jen. From there, the love of beads and findings exploded into a supernova of amazing jewelry. It seemed like a natural step to start a store and share their passion with the world!
They eagerly accepted the invitation to give to The Sparrow Fund this month. Jen told me she supports adoption 100%. Her biological niece was placed with an adoptive family, and it has been a real blessing. Jen and her family are involved in her life and know first hand the gift of adoption.
Go check out Jen and Lindsey’s store and go “like” them on Facebook. Leave them a message on their wall if you have a minute this weekend and thank them for supporting adoption, adoptive families, and the work of The Sparrow Fund. And, go find some goodies in their store to buy! 10% of your purchase will be donated to The Sparrow Fund at the end of the month!

Oh Fiddlesticks for The Sparrow Fund

5.12.11

Oh Fiddlesticks + The Sparrow Fund = Good
Don’t believe me? Go check out their store.
Melissa was a first grade teacher who had always dreamed of being some sort of entrepreneur. Following a hard year of battling infertility, she pulled all her creativity together in a therapeutic way and started working on Oh Fiddlesticks! after a lesson on compound words (If you are reading that and thinking, “what? Did she mean to put that?” Go check out the store).

A year later, she was blessed with a biological child and was able to stay at home with her, which is when Oh Fiddlesticks! officially started when she and a friend, another mom to a little one, partnered together to make it happen. And, their items have become a real hit — for those of you who like to dress like the celebs do, Sandra Bullock purchased this shirt for her little guy and it was even mentioned in US Weekly and other such magazines.

How cool is that?

Melissa has a warm heart towards adoption having been touched by her mother-in-law’s experience with AIDS orphans in Africa through the Peace Corps and having many friends who are considering adopting, have adopted, or are currently in the process of adopting.

She told me:

I personally feel God has placed this desire to be connected and informed about the adoption process in my heart for a reason…I am not sure if it will lead to us actually adopting a child in the future or if it will be for me and my family to be proactive in causes like The Sparrow Fund. Only God knows! . . .  I am so honored to be included in this fundraising event!

Melissa, perhaps you need a new design for adoption! A child + A family on the front. And “ONE MORE child with a forever family, ONE LESS orphan in the world” on the back! I’d buy it (in addition to the incognito ‘stache tee I ordered for Drew)

Go check out the site, go “like” it on Facebook along with over 3,300 other people (including me), thank Melissa for supporting adoption and adoptive families and for giving 10% of all sales during May to The Sparrow Fund. And, go order your compound word tee or a silhouette tee or your very own ‘stache tee. They are seriously the most adorable shirts I’ve seen in a while.

Ruffled Feathers for The Sparrow Fund

5.11.11

As a mother of 3 boys born and being raised on the family’s Iowa farm, you better believe Valerie ruffled some feathers when she started making…girl clothes.

With a Master’s degree in graphic design and working as a freelance designer, it makes sense that she enjoys mixing colors and designs to create one-of-a-kind clothing. Ruffled Feathers has only been around for a year, starting up after Valerie donated skirts and quilts to the Love Without Boundaries Annual Art Auction to raise money for life-saving surgeries for orphans. She enjoyed making those items so much that she didn’t let not having a girl in her home stop her.

Valerie is passionate about God’s heart for orphans and advocates for children around the world who need families as often as she can. She would love to someday add to their family through adoption but knows that so much can be done on this side of adoption as well. A portion of every sale goes to orphan care–and this month she jumped at the opportunity to give 10% of total sales to The Sparrow Fund.
Valerie told me:

The opportunity to be a part of The Sparrow Fund is an incredible honor and blessing for me and my small company.

And, Valerie, we are so glad to have your support and encouragement. Head on over to her site and look at her sweet, classic designs for girls. Do you know someone who could use some ruffled feathers? Take a minute to send Valerie a message there too, thanking her for using her gifts and talents to live out James 1:27 and for supporting the work of The Sparrow Fund.

Junk Posse for The Sparrow Fund

5.10.11

Passion with a purpose.
That’s how designer Tracy Hanson describes her business, Junk Posse.
Love that.
James 1:27 pendant
Both her parents were artists–she still uses her dad’s jewelry tools and treasures her mom’s can of paint brushes today. So, as a mom to 4 kiddos–some adopted and some not–and as a Grandy to 4 amazing little ones–some adopted and some not–her passion for creating naturally became the collection of treasures we can find from her, beautiful pieces to celebrate adoption and parenting.
Ends of the Earth pendant
She creates each piece by hand in her studio in a teeny town in Colorado, supporting many nonprofits and families who are adopting. I’m sure you have seen her pieces in online auctions and fundraisers.

Tracy told me:

Adoption really is my heart whether you are bringing home a baby from your town or a teenager from across the world. I am so inspired by the many people I meet who choose to make the difference in a child’s life…One Matters—it really does.

This month she’s giving 10% of all her sales not already designated as fundraisers for other purposes to The Sparrow Fund. Please go visit her shop and admire the amazing pieces she makes. “Convo” her and thank her for using her passion for adoption in a way that blesses so many and thank her for supporting the work of The Sparrow Fund.

Hello

I overthink everything. This blog is a prime example. Make yourself a cup of coffee and sit down for a read. Actually, make that a pot of coffee. There’s a lot of overthinking here.
