Sarah’s Treasure Box for The Sparrow Fund

5.21.11

create avatar

I love hearing how God has worked in a mighty way to bring a child into a family. And, I’ve been blessed to hear a handful of those stories lately — God working in sometimes ordinary ways, sometimes extraordinary ways, all to unite a child and a family.
Sarah, from Sarah’s Treasure Box, has a story like that. I was going to sum it up here and just include a few quotes. But, it just seemed better to give it to you straight from her so you could hear the whole story and be blessed by it as well.

In the fall of 2006, God called a friend and I at the same time to start an orphan ministry in our church. I was not an adoptive parent but God had given me a huge heart for the orphan. We felt we were in no place to adopt at the time having 2 very small children and NO money. In June of 2007, as I was spending hours and hours of research on orphans and waiting children, I came across the most beautiful boy I had ever seen. I knew there was just no way we could bring him home, so as a family we started praying that God would place him in a good, Christian home.

Weeks went by and no one commited to him, and I just couldn’t understand why because even though his medical records were a bit scary he was just so precious (by the way, he is perfectly healthy. He just happens to be missing an arm). In July, my friend who started the ministry with me called and asked when we were going to commit to him. I told her she was crazy because we didn’t have any money and we didn’t meet the qualifications for China. God had different plans and had already started putting just the right people together to make Jaxson become our son.

On the day we finally met the qualifications, my husband called the agency and told them he was our son but it was a walk of faith because we had no money. The agency told us that was great but we needed $6,500 in one week. God not only provided that $6,500, but He provided the entire amount we needed for the adoption in that 1 week. We knew at that moment that we would be paying it forward someday when we could because so many children could have families if money didn’t stand in the way.

After bringing Jaxson home in June of 2008, my heart just ached and ached to bring more children home but things kept standing in the way of that happening. Last spring, I cried and cried out to God asking God that if we couldn’t bring home another child right now that he would at least find a way for me to help other families bring children home.

After many prayers, tears, and research, I found a craft that I could learn how to do and that is when my Etsy shop opened. Over the last year, I have been blown away with how God has used my two little hands to be able to help many families bring their children home.

My heart still aches for more children in our home but I no longer cry everyday over it because God has allowed me a way to care for orphans even if they are not in our home. I pray that very soon God will bless us with another child or two. But, until that day, I will continue to help others bring children home and fight for the orphan.

Sarah, thank you for sharing your story and allowing us to rejoice with you about God worked to bring Jaxson home and how God has called you to live out James 1:27 through your unique gifts and interests! And, thank you for choosing to support The Sparrow Fund specifically this month by giving 10% of total sales this month to our fund.

Go check out Sarah’s Etsy store. Visit her Facebook page. Thank her too for sharing her story and for her challenge to care for orphans right where God has us, and thank her for supporting The Sparrow Fund. Oh, and buy a couple things too. :)

This Word’s For You, and Me, and for The Sparrow Fund

5.20.11

I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling the need to hear some words from God right now (can I get an Amen?). And, frankly, when do I not need to be reminded of His words?

I could use a little bit of this…

1 Timothy 4: 12

Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

Or a reminder of this…

2 Corinthians 5:7

For we live by faith, not by sight

And, oh boy, I could use this reminder too…

Deuteronomy 6:4-7

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

What verse or passage do you need reminding of? Wanna wear James 1:27 around your neck? Or maybe have John 3:16 on your keychain? Father’s Day gifts, anyone? Simin from This Word’s For You will work with you to make exactly what you want. And, when you are setting up that custom listing with Simin, say thank you for supporting adoption and the work of The Sparrow Fund, okay?

I’m wondering if I should have two anklets, two bracelets, a couple necklaces, a bookmark, a keychain, a belt, shoelaces, and maybe a ponytail holder (???) made up just so I’ve got reminders all over me. Some days are just like that.

Banana Hannah for The Sparrow Fund

5.19.11

Hannah — elementary music teacher for many and wife to one and mother of four — who likes to play in her little corner when all is quiet at her house (from one mother of 4 to another, when would that be?) and create fun little treats to share with others through Banana Hannah Designs.

Hannah began as a scrapbooker several years ago and found that her love of color; design; and all things ink, paper, and stamps extended to more than just her own family scrapbooks. She started making cards for family and friends and then extended her little venture into her own business.

As a personal friend of Ashley who is on the Board of The Sparrow Fund, she has seen first hand the blessing of adoption and truly desires to help families unite with children who need homes through the work of The Sparrow Fund.
Who do you need a card for? I know you need some. And, these are so much, way so much, nicer than the ones you can get in the grocery store. Be thoughtful and buy some cards now so you aren’t stuck with one of those boring ones.
And, while you are being thoughtful and buying cards, thank Hannah for supporting adoption and the work of The Sparrow Fund. You don’t have to send her a thank you card, an email or comment on her blog will do. :)

Mingus and Moob::Maynard’s Mercantile for The Sparrow Fund

5.18.11

That’s the name of the birds.
Clever Cayton.
I’m digging this etsy store. The stuff is adorable and unique. And, Cayton, the owner, is pretty darn cool. She and her husband Jake are on missions staff with MMS Aviation and are doing great things there, using how God has gifted them to spread good news.

Such a pretty headband for one of my daughters….or me.

I don’t care that it’s May; I still like this mini scarfy thing.

Another little scarfy thing that might warrant buying a new outfit just to go with it.
I’m finding myself drawn to every little bird thing I’m finding. Wonder why.
Check out Cayton’s newest project too…Maynard’s Mercantile

She’s making beautiful things for the very trendy and unique bride–though I’m thinking they’d be really nice for a fancy date as well (not that I’m personally going on a whole lot of those…but still).

A woman can dream, can’t I? And wear a really pretty hair thing while I’m dreaming.
Go check out Cayton’s store Mingus and Moob and her newest project Maynard’s Mercantile. And, go check out her cute blog too while you’re at it. Leave her some love, and thank her for her heart towards adoption and adoptive families and for supporting the work of The Sparrow Fund by giving 10% of all sales from both her stores during the month of May.

Hello

I overthink everything. This blog is a prime example. Make yourself a cup of coffee and sit down for a read. Actually, make that a pot of coffee. There’s a lot of overthinking here.
