snapshots of Christmas

1.2.09

Christmas is over. We took our tree down today and put away all the decos. Sorta sad to see them all gone. But, it’s a new year and we are starting afresh which is a good feeling. I wanted to post a few of my favorite Christmas pictures before I move full throttle into January. My most favorite is the one of Ashlyn–it was actually taken Christmas Eve when I snuck into her room to see if she was really nestled in fast asleep. When I did, I saw that her bedroom decos had fallen down around her–totally not safe, but so darn cute. So, I took a picture and then promptly saved her. The one of Evan reading is book is cute too–he so enjoyed each gift and wanted to savor each one before opening another. And, Drew…what can I say? He got pirate gear and loved each piece including a clip on earring. He sliced every one at least a few times with his sword…including a sleeping baby (he did it extra gently to baby Audrey) and my great aunt (not a good scene…she didn’t appreciate his drama at all…what a grinch!). Anyway, enjoy the snapshots and here’s to new beginnings in 2009!

the tooth museum under construction

12.22.08

For several weeks now, Evan’s front tooth has been loose. And, when I say “loose,” I mean that it’s been disgustingly loose, the kind of loose that when an adult would see it wiggle, he or she would grimace and feel compelled to look away. Loose teeth can be super nasty. We’ve been trying to get Evan to really wiggle it to encourage it to fall out since it looked so bad, we could barely look at him. But, he hated doing it. One night last week when I asked to see it, he told me that his mouth was a museum and that I could look from a distance but I couldn’t touch or an alarm would go off and I’d be “under arrested.” Interesting concept. So, the next day, when I asked him to see it, he told me that since it was raining, the tooth museum was closed. I came to learn that the tooth museum closes during rain, snow, sleet, and simply the dark. Drew insisted that my car keys could open even the closed tooth museum. But, Evan told us otherwise. I convinced him this morning to let me take a picture of the tooth museum so that I could make him a sign for it. Later today, he was playing with Daddy and out the tooth came without Evan even realizing it. Finally! So, now, we’ve been informed that the tooth museum is under construction. I must say, he looks much cuter missing a tooth than he did with a crazy snaggle tooth!

miniature golf is a contact sport

7.28.08

One may think that mini golf is a harmless sport, a fun way to spend the afternoon. However, I must point out that I actually managed to get injured twice during this nonintimidating game. I hesitate to tell about the first time since I assume my younger sister will read this and will have a whole different account of the event. But, the facts are these–summer of 1991; family game of mini golf while vacationing at the beach; at the very first hole, my mother tells my younger sister to “hit it hard;” Erin proceeds with a Tiger-Woodsian swing and hits me on the eye with her club. The story really doesn’t end there since my dad then took me to some crazy beach clinic where some “doctor” who barely spoke English proceeded to stitch up the corner of my eye. My stomach turns just thinking of it now. Okay, so back to present day. I have only played mini golf once since that scary day in 1991. Now, my mom-in-law was here helping me with the kids and I get the clever idea to take them to mini golf. For some unknown reason, the golf course is about 100 degrees hotter than the temperature off the course. And, my eldest child managed to hit me smack in the shin with his club, making me the first known person to have a 66% chance of injury playing miniature golf. I’ve got a nice black and blue lump on my left leg. (Note that I am kindly sparing you any pictures.) Perhaps they should put me in the Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum for that. That would make Evan happy.

note to self

7.3.08

Note to self: put the canned whipped cream up high in the frig.

I was greeted this morning while I was blowdrying my hair by Drew with the chocolate canned whip cream in his mouth. Yup, that nozzle was just being sucked on. The stuff is good, but not that good at 9:AM.

And, yes, I realize that most of my funny story postings involve Drew. It’s not that the other two don’t get into trouble. It’s just that posting about fighting over the computer or arguing over who got up the escalator first isn’t really all that funny. But, Drew manages to do things that are rather entertaining.

Hello

I overthink everything. This blog is a prime example. Make yourself a cup of coffee and sit down for a read. Actually, make that a pot of coffee. There’s a lot of overthinking here.
