Evan graduated

6.12.08

It was an emotional day for me today as we went to see Evan’s end of school music performance and see him get his kindergarten “diploma.” It seems like it was just last week that we were coaching him through his tears and practically pushing him onto that bus in the morning. I didn’t know how we were going to make it through the year. But, here we are. We made it through. Not only did we make it through, but he has even been a little sad that kindergarten is over. And, I’m a little sad too. Of course, I’m dealing with the normal mom stuff of how-in-the-world-am-I-going-to-keep-these-kids-busy-this-summer syndrome. But, more than that, I’m sad to leave Mrs. Nowak and Mrs. Ritter’s care. They have been such a blessing this year and have cared for not only Evan but also for me as I went through the process of recognizing some special needs that Evan has and getting him help. It’s been quite a year. Tomorrow, he has one more half day of school before summer is official. Mark and I are going to decorate his bedroom door tonight (it’s our tradition to do that on special days for the kids–we hang streamers and colorful ribbons from the door frame for them to wake up to). And, I think I’ll go get some balloons to meet him with at the bus stop when he is dropped off for the very last time.

P.S. Had to include the picture of Ash and Drew hamming it up on the stage after the program. They are crazy.

Waiting Adoptive Mom Sweepstakes!

6.5.08

My 6-year-old Evan eagerly asked me to fill out an entry form yesterday to win a Speed Racer prize that was in some toy magazine. I agreed and started to fill it out–I’m a sucker for a free giveaway! He asked me to read him the instructions, which I did. Then, he asked, “So, when will my prize come?” I tried to explain that there were only a handful of winners and that lots of people were going to send this form in. But, he just didn’t quite get it. SO, I decided to do a fun little project of my own that I had been thinking about doing anyway (thanks to my yahoo group friend Denise who recently did a giveaway on her blog). This will help teach him what a “sweepstakes” is as well as add a little fun for waiting adoptive moms!

We are offering a giveaway for a pack of 10 custom notecards similar to the ones pictured here. The winner can choose what wording to put on the various cards–can be your first name, a monogram, “thank you from…”, “a note from…”, etc. These cards sell at a local boutique for $16. To enter, you must be a waiting adoptive mom for a child from China. Just post a comment to this blog entry with your name and LID. Feel free to add a little something about yourself or your family if I don’t know you already. I am going to let Evan “draw” a name (a concept he really didn’t get since he thought he had that drawing a winner meant he had to draw a picture to get a prize) on Sunday, June 15th. I will post a blog entry that day with the winner’s name!

fun with neighbors

6.2.08

The kids have had a ball this past week playing with our neighbors. They have 3 kiddos exactly the ages of our kids. So, they have all been perfectly matched. In these pictures, the kids were enjoying some hot cocoa during a rain storm that came during their outdoor play. In the other picture, they were all lined up watching the neighbor remove a bush from the yard. We are praying that these neighbors stick around for a while–they are only supposed to be here temporarily as they look for a home to buy. We’d love for them to stay!

Fenwick Island, DE for Memorial Day

5.27.08

Had a good weekend with the kids at my parent’s place in Fenwick. The weather was just perfect–sunny in the 70s. They loved playing on the beach and enjoying a “river” that the tide had created. It was sort of a “baby pool.” Evan particularly enjoyed collecting crabs in a bucket–which all subsequently died and were given to ducks (sorry to all the animal rightists). Ashlyn collected hundreds of seashells which she worked very hard back at the condo to wash and dry. And, Drew just used the shovel over and over, filling the bucket and dumping the bucket. Mark and I just liked getting away.

Hello

I overthink everything. This blog is a prime example. Make yourself a cup of coffee and sit down for a read. Actually, make that a pot of coffee. There’s a lot of overthinking here.
