nesting

1.18.10

I’ve been crazy nesting this weekend—cleaning out closets, going through bins of children’s clothes, looking through boxes that hadn’t been touched in a while. I came across this letter. I don’t remember what warranted the sorry note–sounds like I lost some ring that my mom let me wear? I just thought it was pretty funny how I made check boxes (I remember doing these a lot on notes). And, I appreciated my mom’s well thought out answer.

Praying there is a reason for my nesting this week…

crazy still

1.15.10

I can clearly remember the feeling of being very, very pregnant and going to bed each night wondering if it was the last night I’d be pregnant. I was unsure of how to make plans on our calendar and pretty much kept it clear (“Well, I don’t want to commit to going out next week. I may be in the hospital having a baby that day.”). People called me and emailed me to find out if I was in labor yet…as if I’d keep that a secret.

That’s very much like how I feel right now. The office in China that handles adoptions puts out a list of newly available children for adoption about every 34 days…or so. We are now at day 46. Every night, I go to bed wondering if we will hear in the morning that the list will be out that day. I don’t know what plans to make because I wonder if we will be reviewing the file of a little girl who might become our daughter that day. I’m getting calls and emails from people asking if the list has come out, have we reviewed any files yet. For two weeks, I’ve felt anxious and on the edge of my seat, ready.
And, it’s quiet. Very quiet. (sigh)

wii are crazy

1.11.10

Wii have been converted. As if watching 5 seasons of 24 is not enough to occupy us, wii have joined the world of modern gaming. Ebay buyers looking for an old xbox and gamecube console and oodles of xbox games, get ready to buy. Wii’re hoping they are.

Here’s a picture of what my family has been doing every spare minute since Sunday afternoon.

24: are we crazy?

1.8.10

We’ve been sucked in by the commercials we’ve seen as of late for the 8th season of 24. Yup, the marketing got to us.

We watched season 1 and season 2 way back when. At the time, we were pregnant with Evan and then home with a newborn baby. Watching 24 on our deluxe 13″ tv was something we did as I sat on the couch nursing and Mark paced around with a fussy new baby. After season 2, we bailed on it not because it wasn’t good but because we didn’t want to be scheduling our life around a tv show (remember, those were pre-DVR days).
So, I am publicly announcing that I just bought used copies of season 3, season 4, and season 5. After we’ve gotten through all 18 discs or so (what in the world am I committing to?), we’ll get the next seasons and get all caught up.
I’m justifying it by thinking it will be great to take to China with us when we (eventually) travel to pick up our daughter.
Here’s to hoping 24 isn’t in season 24 by the time we catch up.

Hello

I overthink everything. This blog is a prime example. Make yourself a cup of coffee and sit down for a read. Actually, make that a pot of coffee. There’s a lot of overthinking here.
