You Are Cordially Invited…

8.13.10

Wanna hear about what’s been keeping me up late at night lately?

A crying baby? No.
Bad dreams? No.
Caffeinated coffee by mistake? No.
The fact that we don’t have central air? Well, we don’t. But, that’s not why I’ve been up late.

Check out what I wrote and published here (just click on that highlighted word for those of you who don’t quite get it…like my mother-in-law…Hi, Mom.)

For a very long time, when I would complain about some popular adoption websites being a bit liberal or antagonistic to Christians, Mark would suggest to me to just start a new one, a suggestion that usually ended the conversation since I lacked all confidence in taking anything like that on. But, for the past 4 months, since we’ve been home with Lydia, I’ve felt an increased need for such a site and forum–as have a handful of other families we’ve connected with. So, Mark and I started talking it through and getting more excited about it. For the last couple weeks, we’ve spent most nights working on it and connecting with other adoptive families to gather some things to post there. Never thought I’d be up until 2am sitting with Mark while he tried to customize a forum and I created “buttons.” (Big shout out of thanks to Colleen over at Weaksauce blogs for being my wordpress guru as well.)

So, this week, we officially launched We Are Grafted In, a website for adoptive families, families considering adoption, families interested in supporting adoption or orphan care ministries–all from a Christian worldview. Please check it out. Email me your suggestions. Email me suggested resources–books, websites, etc. Email me links to any good articles or blog posts that you think would be good there. And, join the forum. The forum won’t work unless people join it and go there. :) And, if you want to be more involved, let me know. I could use some kindred spirits to help out.

Rainy Day Fun with Grammy

8.12.10

I haven’t been too busy with websites and such to have fun with the kiddos. Today, we headed out near Grammy’s house to the Crayola Factory.

Drew and Lydia in the chalk area–Drew colored more on his hands than on the cool floor.
For big kids only, Ash and Evan were really into making a design out of melted crayon wax in these big crayon thingies. I confess, that I enjoyed helping them too. Melted wax is just sorta fun, you know?
This guy told us all about how Crayola makes crayons. He made a couple hundred red ones in front of us and told us all about the process. Did you know they simply use cornstarch and water for the glue on the wrappers? And, did you know local farmers used to hand apply each wrapper to crayons before they had machines to do it? They called them by the color of the crayons they’d wrap–the red farm, the blue farm, etc.
Yea! A picture with all 4 kids smiling! Not the clearest–but they are all there and smiling!
Grammy with lil Lyds.
After the Crayola Factory, we headed 2 mi. down the rode to do a mule pulled Canal boat ride. Had to post this picture because the boat guide was on the microphone explaining that the tow rope was attached to the mules’ harness at which point Drew started cracking up. Know why? He thought she said “hiness” which is another word he uses for “hiney.” It wasn’t until dinner tonight that the issue was clarified, and he realized that it would be a little hard to attach a tow rope pulling a 47 ton boat to a mule’s rump.
So typical Drew story.
Here they are, pulling us by their butts.
A very fun day despite the rain.

Thursday’s Things to Pray For

8.12.10

  1. Pray for patience in dealing with the kids daily and for a servant’s heart while I’m doing that. I hate when I find myself being short with them.
  2. Pray for Mark and I to find time to connect as a couple. Haven’t done much of that lately.
  3. Pray for God to use the We Are Grafted In site for His purposes. We’re excited about it and are praying that it serves as a real encouragement for families.

Pray for me, for these things I list. And, leave me a comment to let me know you did if you don’t mind. It would be a great encouragement. And, I invite you to do the same on your blog.

Grab this button above and add it to your blog post. All you have to do is highlight the code in the box above and paste it into your Thursday’s Things to Pray For post in the “edit HTML” tab wherever you want the button to appear.

Then, add your link to the list below. Just click on your own Thursday’s Things to Pray For post and copy the web address. That’s a direct link to the specific post (not just your blog in general). Then, paste that url address below. I’ll be sure to come by and pray for your requests too.

Hello

I overthink everything. This blog is a prime example. Make yourself a cup of coffee and sit down for a read. Actually, make that a pot of coffee. There’s a lot of overthinking here.
