Thursday’s Things to Pray For

9.16.10

  1. Praise for a great report for Lydia this morning with the adoption specialists at CHOP! Lydia is growing and developing wonderfully–we thought this was so, but it was fun to have them confirm it.
  2. Pray for the details to be worked out so that we can schedule Lydia’s procedure to get tubes in her ears. And, pray that the tubes would restore her hearing.
  3. Pray for me personally — I’ve found the schedule this week particularly grueling (Lydia has appointments 4 out of the 5 mornings this week). I feel like I’m constantly behind. Pray that I could prioritize and give myself grace and be granted grace as things have to wait or get missed.

Click here to learn more about Thursday’s Things to Pray For. Pray for me, for these things I list. And, leave me a comment to let me know you did if you don’t mind. It would be a great encouragement. And, I invite you to do the same on your blog.

Wish I Could Just Make Everything Better

9.15.10

for this sweet little girl.

She needs tubes in her ears. They are filled with fluid which is significantly impacting her hearing. I know that this is the most common surgery for kids. It’s over in 5 minutes. Recovery is half a day. It’s no big deal. I know that.

Except that she’s my baby.

The nurse practitioner said they’d give her a sedative first so that she’s calm and relaxed and doesn’t have a problem separating from me for the surgery. I’m wondering if they can give me a dose of that stuff too.

I can’t stop imagining them taking her from my arms and putting her under general anesthesia. I keep imagining her just laying there asleep.

Somebody stop me!

She’s going to do just fine. I’m going to do just fine. She’s His child, and He’s had His arms wrapped around her from the first moment she was born, protecting her and caring for her when she had no mother’s arms to do so. I know that He is with her, and He is with me.

We have to get clearance from the cardiologist before we can schedule the surgery. I’m hoping it’s sooner than later so we can just do this and get her hearing where she should be.

Sunday Snapshot: {Chinese Class}

9.13.10

Hmmm….
I’ll give you one guess to tell me which one is mine.
Today was our first day of Chinese school. Ashlyn insisted that she wanted to sign on the dotted line and commit to this. I discouraged; she persisted. I knew it would be hard; she persisted. I assumed she would be one of few non-Chinese children there; she persisted. And, eventually, we said, “If anyone can do it, this girl can.” So, to Chinese school we went today for 2 hours. And, it was hard. She was the only caucasian child we saw there out of many children. And, she struggled a bit. But, she’s already told me what supplies she wants to bring next time to make it easier. And, she requested that I sit in with a paper and pencil and write down phonetically some of the phrases as a cheat sheet for her.
Guess I’ve enrolled in Chinese school too.
I also promised her a date night after the next class to Dunkin Donuts for hot cocoa. Don’t want her to get too discouraged without a reward for her efforts.

Ni Hao Y'all

What Every Father of 4 Wants for His Birthday

9.11.10

a day without us
Kidding…sort of…

We gave Mark a retreat basket and permission to go away for a day by himself. He got lots of goodies in there that he likes like cashews, Reese’s peanut butter cups, Peligrino, and caramels. Then, he got a couple good thinking books, a notebook, a pen, a sealed envelope with notes from the kids to read when he’s away, and a cool paperweight from Dos Besitos with a map of Baoji and Xi’an (where Lydia is from and where we were to get her).

Happy birthday, Mark. Thank you for your commitment to growing in Him. Know that I support you 100% in that–even when it means time away from us or from helping me with the parenting duties. Thank you for being a godly leader in our home.

Hello

I overthink everything. This blog is a prime example. Make yourself a cup of coffee and sit down for a read. Actually, make that a pot of coffee. There’s a lot of overthinking here.
