Dui Bu Qi

6.2.11

For those of you learning Chinese, hoping to learn Chinese, or with children who speak or are learning Chinese. Hope you like this song as much as I do.

I’m putting it on my iphone for Ashlyn to learn. Gotta know how to say Dui Bu Qi (I’m sorry) for when her Mei guo ren – ness (American-ness, spelling massacred there, I’m sure) is totally obvious (if her blonde curly hair doesn’t give it away).

Preschool – check

6.1.11

My parents were great–are great. But, I have about 10 pictures of my childhood — okay, maybe 30 if you include cheesy school pictures with either my 70s bowl cut or big bangs and braces. I guarantee I have 0 pictures of graduating preschool. I doubt it was even called graduating preschool. It probably was called something way more ordinary…something like….last day of preschool.

The good news for my kids is that not only do they have thousands of pictures of their childhood thus far (for better or worse). But, Drew officially has preschool graduation pictures. Because, this was no last day of preschool–this was a graduation ceremony, people. I took the older two out of school for the event. We wore dresses. We got there 45 minutes early because Drew’s teacher told us they were expecting 500 people.

And, despite my cynicism over the formality of it all. It was cute. Like super cute. I even got a little choked up.
They made a video of all the graduates answering some questions and showed it on two large screens in the front. Drew got his official 15 seconds of fame with his answer to, “What will you miss most about preschool?” to which he answered a very serious “makin’ puppets” which set Mark off in his well-known roar of laughter. A few days later, we’re still making Drew give us a little “makin’ puppets” when we need a smile or think someone else does.

In the classroom afterwards to get his things and say his goodbyes, Drew was a bit more himself and let the formality go. Using his cap as a pizza is just more him than wearing it on his head.

We officially have a kindergartener again. And, he’s so ready for kindergarten. Just today, he wisely told me, “Mama, we think giant shoes are really giant. But, if you are a giant, they are small.” Genius, this boy.

Wonder if he’ll still have this rag of a thing that was his blanket for his next big graduation?

Giveaway winner {Alex & the kaleidoscope band}

6.1.11

There’s something ever so slightly anticlimactic to choosing a giveaway winner when you have a whole….4…entries. But, nonetheless, I went to random.org and put in to select a random number between….1 and 4. And, 3 popped up – Sweet Jerusha who is right now in China bringing home her son who will be joining her other 3 kiddos. She won’t be rockin’ out next week with Alex and the band–instead, she’ll be listening to music over loud speakers from the early 1990s that she may or may not have liked then but that everyone around her things is awesome and brand new. But, she’ll have 3 cds to rock along to when she’s home and has gotten over jet lag. Go pop over and visit her blog to hear how they are doing. Jiushu has only been with them a few days and is having a hard time, sweet little man.

The tickets? Well, I’m offering them to Jena since she’s a local gal.

Even though the giveaway is over, please do head over to my friend Branda’s blog and donate to help her bring her 8 year old daughter Gabriella home from China. Donations there will enter you in another giveaway (a way cool giveaway) with some awesome prizes including a Kindle, a bunch of things from Jiayin Designs, a Starbucks gift basket, a sweet handmade clutch purse, and more. Go, go — it ends soon AND they just got their travel approval today! Yay!

31 for The Sparrow Fund

5.31.11

You know I had to post about this business today.

Have you heard of Thirty-one yet? They sell really neat boutique type of stuff–bags that can be dressed up or dressed down, personalized stuff, home stuff, organization stuff. I hadn’t heard of them until recently. But, I bet I’m going to start hearing about them more and more.
Women can become associates to sell Thirty-one things through parties (home or online) and live out Proverbs 31 in so doing. Pretty neat.
Lindsey Smith is one of those consultants and volunteered to help The Sparrow Fund as part of our May drive to build the nest by giving 20% of the sales generated through our online party to our cause.
She’s been able to witness the blessing of adoption first hand as a TX friend of Ashley Milford, who serves with us on the Board of The Sparrow Fund. And, Kate is certainly a real blessing.
Go take a look at all the goodies in their online catalog. And, go here to Lindsey’s page and click on “My Events” to shop for The Sparrow Fund! And, don’t dilly dally, okay?

Hello

I overthink everything. This blog is a prime example. Make yourself a cup of coffee and sit down for a read. Actually, make that a pot of coffee. There’s a lot of overthinking here.
