GIVEAWAY: JIAYIN DESIGNS

5.22.10

Directly translated, Jiayin reads beautiful and graceful sound in Mandarin.
When put together, they mean good and beautiful news. And, it’s the same phrase used in the Chinese Bible for the phrase “the mystery of God.”

I have had the privilege of helping Helen, a friend who works with my parents in China, with a new business. And, to be honest, I’m pretty excited about it myself! The most precious gift we were given before we traveled to bring home Lydia was a special charm my mom had a jeweler make for me in Beijing. It was a sterling silver charm, hand cut from a sheet of silver, of Lydia’s Chinese name, Mei Yue, which means “beautiful moon.” I just loved it. I wore it everyday in China and loved when people there would notice it and ask if it was our daughter’s name. In fact, one of the orphanage staff noticed it around my neck and commented to our translator about it. I hope it showed them how much we treasured our daughter’s history.

I’m excited to be working with Helen and make these available to other families! Jaiyin Designs is selling all sorts of hand cut silver charms. Take a look, and think creatively. Do you have a child who is not Chinese as well as a Chinese child? Perhaps you could get 2 charms – one with your child’s Chinese name and one with the meaning of your child’s American name (e.g., Ashlyn means “tree by the water” which would make for a really cool charm). Or, get a charm with your child’s Chinese name, a “mother” charm, and a “big sister” charm. The jeweler will make any characters you want, and each one is one of a kind.

And, in an effort to draw people to the site and get some new business, Helen has given me the go ahead to give a charm away! The winner will be able to get any charm of his or her choice and free shipping (a value of $60). To enter, leave a comment on this post and share what charm you think would be your first choice. Leave a second comment for a second entry if you blog about this giveaway on your own blog (please provide a link to your blog post). I will close the giveaway on Friday, May 28th at midnight and do the drawing that weekend. I’ll contact the winner as well as post about it here! (If you don’t have a public blog linked to your blogger profile, leave me your email address as well so that I can contact you.)

p.s. i wore a picture frame necklace in China with Mya’s picture in it. It hangs in my closet today and jut serves as a reminder of how much I adored that girl in those months leading up to our meeting! I love the story of the orphanage staff seeing Lydia’s Chinese name around your neck – COOL!

Oooo! How fun! I saw these charms earlier on your blog and LOVED them! I would choose to have a charm of my daughter’s Chinese name “Fu Yue” which also translates into “beautiful moon” — or so they tell me!

These are beautiful! A connection for the aching heart of a waiting mother, a decloration of love and a conversation piece that can not only open doors but hearts to adoption! If I won I would love one that said Selah Joy (meaning to stop, ponder, think about, Joy) This is the name of the daughter in my dreams that I will find through adoption in China.

    now that would be cool…….

I love these charms. I have been admiring these since you blogged about them, and posted the site here. They are lovely, and a beautiful way to carry the memories and journey with you always. Plus a great heirloom for your child. I would chose our daughter’s chinese name Niu Xuan. We are told it means lemon lilly.

Thanks for the opportunity. How special!!

Decisions, decisions. :) I am thinking that I would go with the enclosed mother charm. Being a mom to four (soon!), I would want something that covers all the children rather than just one’s name. Can you get “mama” made instead of “mother” or is it the same? “Mother” always seems so formal to me. :) I would like to eventually order some of the other ones for family members…aunts, grandmas, etc…too cute! I think they would make such great gifts. I will post about this on my blog. Thanks for offering this giveaway!

Oh Kelly! I LOVE these and am just now putting two and two together and knowing you are one-in-the-same “Owen-button” Kelly. Wow, the world is so small (btw I’m working on a replacement button for Owen!!)
If I were to win one of these, I would LOVE an “Ashlyn” one … but that would mean I would have to have God grant me a daughter by that name (long story–read Ashlynn Coconut on my blog from last year if you want to know more.) But realistically, if I were to win I would put it in the fundraiser giveaway as a “winner’s choice” on what they would prefer. These are SO cool! Best of luck to your parents and their friends in China. I gotta think these will be HOT items! I hope to post later on it, but right now … wow, I’m overwhelmed with the fundraiser! ACK! On my list-to-do!

    Blessings,
    Valerie

    Kelly:

First of all, thank you for your sweet words of comfort over the last few weeks regarding our precious McKenna. I have been thinking of something we could send to the foster family as they are also really grieving right now. When I saw these charms, I thought it would be perfect to get one for the foster mom with McKenna’s Chinese name. My friend, Nicole Settle, will be meeting with Grace and Hope to pick up Pei’s reports and she could pass it on to them. What is the turn around time? I think she will be traveling in July.

You can PM me at nikkigreig@yahoo.com.

    :)

    Thanks!

I love the idea and beauty of the charms! There is so much that I could write, but I will summarize by saying this: I am the oldest of 7 sibblings (19 years old). I have heard a little about you through a friend. My parents and my sister took a similiar journey to China last April to adopt my youngest brother, Xui Yi (now named Samuel Yi Glasstetter)while I stayed home to watch the other kids. My brother is now home with us and I love him so much; he is also special needs (hearing impairment). I have drawn so close to him (he is only 5yrs.) as well as him to me and it is hard for me to go away to college and leave my family behind. If I chose a charm, it would have something to do with his name so I can wear it and take a “piece” of hime with me :)
    sorry for the long post!

Good idea Kelly! I love my charm with my daughter’s name on it. If I won, I’d get one with the character for “Nai Nai” (one of the Chinese names for grandmother)what Mia calls my mom.

These Charms are beautiful. I would absolutely love one. Picking what it would say is tough! At first I thought, Evan’s Chinese name, which is FuLe, and means “lucky” and “Happy.” However, he means so much more than his name. He was a conceived in my heart when I was just a teen, probably younger and I want him to know that he was always loved and wanted. So, I’m thinking that perhaps the Bible reference of 1 Samuel 1:27. Or, if they can fit it, the beginning of the verse…”For this child I have prayed…”
For me, it’s so much more appropriate, and when people ask, it’s a great way to introduce the Lord to them, as well as the plight of the orphan.

Hello

I overthink everything. This blog is a prime example. Make yourself a cup of coffee and sit down for a read. Actually, make that a pot of coffee. There’s a lot of overthinking here.
