Happy Birthday, Baby Girl!

3.10.10

How amazing that we received pictures of our dear one celebrating her birthday on her actual birthday! Early this morning, we got these pictures which were taken overnight while we slept. What a precious keepsake to have. And, check out that cake? One friend remarked today that the cake probably weighs more than she does. I bet that’s true. And, just so you know, no, our 1 year old baby girl didn’t so accurately put icing on her own face. I doubt she’d even be able to reach her own face with all those layers on. Apparently, it’s a Chinese tradition for the adults to put icing on the children’s faces on their birthdays. We are so thankful that she is in a place where her birthday, her life, is celebrated. Now, we just have to get this girl to smile!

Here’s how we are celebrating tonight–not nearly as fancy as the cake Lydia had. But, I think our kids will be a bit happier about it than Lydia was about hers!

    Happy Birthday, Lydia!
Kelly, she still looks so tiny next to that cake! Wonder how much of it she will eat. That little boy next to her in one of the photos(saw them on FB) looks like he’s about ready to have himself a coupla’ slices or three! What a blessing for you to receive these pictures!

I am amazed at how pretty the Chinese cakes are. We passed by a bakery in Chongqing and they were all so fancy. I am with you though. I would rather have a cookie cake any day. Happy Birthday Lydia!

that has got to be the mack daddy of all cakes! If that’s a simple b-day cake, I can only imagine what a wedding cake looks like!

Lydia is so beautiful, and I love how she just was NOT pleased with the frosting thing. Too cute.

What a blessing this is her very last birthday without her family. Your heart must be aching to get her HOME. Next year, will certainly be different!

I don’t know why these TA’s are taking SO long! Yep, we’ve been waiting, but you’ve been logged in for 300 years. I would gladly take a back seat getting my TA for you to get yours tomorrow!

    Praying they are soon!!

I love the crown. What a great cake. We decided to celebrate Taylor’s 1/2 birthday this year since we weren’t with her on her birthday.

awwhhh…what a sweet treat for you to get these photos of your baby girl ON her actual first b-day! Too precious!! Gotta love the way the Chinese celebrate b-days…those cakes are amazing!

I think it’s great that you made a big ol’ b-day cookie to celebrate her birthday at home. We made cupcakes and went out for Chinese in celebration of Khloe’s b-day, too. It helps the waiting heart!!

    God bless!

That cake is amazing! Were you all able to have that sent or did the orphanage do that on their own? That is so wonderful that she is surrounded by those who love her enough to make a big deal out of her special day! Personally, I think she was crying cuz she wanted to be celebrating with the wonderful new family she has been gazing at in the album that you sent! Okay, so maybe not…but it’s a nice thought, right? :o) This is the last birthday that she won’t be in your arms!!! AMEN!

Oh Kelly, this is such a wonderful thing to have. Lydia is soooo cute and the frosting is adorable, even if she doesn’t agree (lol). Just think, this is the last birthday she will have without you guys.

    Happy birthday Lydia!!!!

Hello

I overthink everything. This blog is a prime example. Make yourself a cup of coffee and sit down for a read. Actually, make that a pot of coffee. There’s a lot of overthinking here.
