Theme Song for 2010

1.3.10

In 2008, I chose a song to claim as my theme for the year. You can watch it here. The song was “From the Inside Out.” I never chose one for 2009; I’m not sure why. But, since December, I’ve been thinking about choosing another one for 2010. I sang today in church on the worship team, and we sang a song that we’ve done before. I have always loved the song. When we were singing, it dawned on me that it should be my theme for the year. “I Boast No More” is an old hymn from the 1700s based on Philippians 3:7-9 which reads:

I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith.
My prayer is that in 2010, I would humbly accept that even my best is not good enough, my best obedience is not enough. The only thing I can do is plead what Christ has done for me; I am declared righteous only through faith in Him. May my interest in the world and all of its demands and enticements fall away. Rather, may I understand my identity as a new creation in Christ and boast not in any of my own works whether verbally or in my heart but boast only in what He has done for me (Galatians 6:13-15).

The version here is redone by Sandra McCracken, a fantastic singer/songwriter who happens to be married to a member of Caedmon’s Call, another fantastic group of Christian musicians.

Great song….I have never heard it before. I thought I was the only one who chooses theme songs. I don’t necessarily choose them for each year, but more for phases of my life! :) My current theme song is “Something to Say” by Matthew West closely followed by “Listen” by Josh Wilson. (Ironic, I know!) :)

Hello

I overthink everything. This blog is a prime example. Make yourself a cup of coffee and sit down for a read. Actually, make that a pot of coffee. There’s a lot of overthinking here.
