the ugliest tree in the world and then our tree…of course

12.7.09

As usual, I had fun making a little montage of our Christmas tree hunt from Saturday. What you don’t really “get” from the video is the real story of the day. The place we’ve gone for the last several years to cut down our tree–local place and really nice trees–raised their prices to $9 a foot. The idea of spending $70 on a tree that would be in our house for only 4 weeks and then thrown away just sorta seemed wrong. So, Mark found a farm online that didn’t seem too far away (estimated 30 min.) that had a coupon for $5 a foot. Score! Well, we got lost trying to find out and ended up all over the place. Took twice as long if not more to get there. When we got there, we saw why their trees were $5 a foot (see the picture of the ugliest tree in the world for proof). So, back in the car we went and headed back to the local farm after we stopped at some little convenience store to load the kids up with sugar so they wouldn’t be too mad that we had to try another place. They rallied and we had fun…despite the freezing cold weather and light rain…and despite the $66 price tag (ouch). At least the rain soon turned to a thrilling early snow to get us in the Christmas spirit. And, I admit, hearing the kids chant “here comes the tree!” at the top of their lungs made every cent of that $66 tree worth it.

    That is too funny!!

Did you end up going to Varners? They are good friends of ours! They call that “buck rub” on the tree.

That is one ugly tree!! I hope your second one is great!

That is the funniest looking Christmas tree I have ever seen! It sounds like you had a wonderful time finding the perfect tree!

Thanks for the fun this morning! I sure got a smile out of that ugly tree. So, did your husband really just pop the tree in the stand and it was perfect, or was there a little editing going on in your recording? Our trees always take fourteen tries before we get it to stand up straight. Merry Tree Day! Hugs, Petrie

LOL you could have cut the ugly one in half and gotten 2 little short trees for the price of one! I love the excitement in the kids putting up the tree. We’ve resorted to a artificial the last couple of years. It pays for itself after using it twice. Also we’ve never had that great family experience of going to pick out our tree. It’s usually freezing or raining, and we end up just going to a lot and getting the first tree we see!

I love a bargain as much as the next gal, but sometimes you realize why something is a bargain …spoken from experience!

You to? My husband almost had a heart attack when the tree I fell in love with was $75!! I consoled him with “it’s about the experience, not the price!” He had to admit, the look on our daughters face during the horse drawn carriage ride out to the tree fields (think miles/acres of trees) was worth it!! ~Rebecca~

What a fun memory for your kids! Loved the video – especially your little one saying, “I want a cookie!” What fun!

Can’t believe how…non-traditional and stranged the ugly tree was…Did they mean for it to be that ugly? Unfortunate…

    Blessings to you!

Hello

I overthink everything. This blog is a prime example. Make yourself a cup of coffee and sit down for a read. Actually, make that a pot of coffee. There’s a lot of overthinking here.
