Philadelphia and Baltimore, Doctors and Dancers

11.13.08

What a day on Monday. I should have posted before now, but it’s been a whirlwind couple days.

Monday morning, Mark took me to the doctor for my 1-week post surgery follow up. We waited for nearly 2 hours to see the doctor (grrrr….). When they finally scoped me, Mark and I freaked out a bit. My vocal cords were swollen and there were big white gobs all over them (I know, totally gross). But, the doctor told us it looked great and that the white stuff was just some of the collagen bulging out and would go away over time. They also said I could come off complete vocal rest and go to moderate vocal rest—I am supposed to speak 1 minute every 10 minutes for a total of 5-6 minutes per hour. I still can’t lift anything over 10 lbs for 5 more weeks–which has proved nearly impossible in daily life with a 2 year old. But, at least I can try to speak—I say “try” because my voice is HORRIBLE. Apparently, it could be garbled and bad for up to 4 weeks. I really sound pathetic. I’m barely audible. Nice.

Despite all this, we got back home by 2:30 and I left by 4 to go to Baltimore. Mark had given me a ticket to see the “So You Think You Can Dance” show in Baltimore with my younger sister Erin (who got a ticket from her hubby for her birthday which is only 2 days before mine). So, off I went to meet Erin with my dry erase board in hand. Erin (with baby Audrey) was a good sport, talking most of the drive down. We got stuck in a jam 1/2 mile from the pavilion and ended up being 30 minutes late to the show. But, we didn’t seem to miss much. It was a good show and always an interesting experience. I mean, we saw women in their late 30s totally swooning over these dancers. We even saw grown women with tutus on. Seriously. As with last year, we expected to be senior citizens there since we thought most of the audience would be half our age. But, this year in particular, there were a lot of older people there. There was even a woman in her 50s who actually got irritated with us because we were standing up during the intermission and she couldn’t see the video clips on the big screen. Video clips. That’s it. Apparently, there are fans more die hard about this show than ourselves. It was a late night—I didn’t get back home until 2AM and was beat and emotional yesterday because of it.

So, it was extra nice to have received a really nice get well gift basket from Michelle from my China adoption yahoo group. Wasn’t that the sweetest thing of her to send to me? It’s packed full of chicken noodle soup, tea, and throat drops, etc. Super cute and a great pick-me-up.

I am glad that you are on the mend, but know how frustrated you must be. That is so funny about the women in tutu’s!

What a sweet thing for Michelle to do~

Hello

I overthink everything. This blog is a prime example. Make yourself a cup of coffee and sit down for a read. Actually, make that a pot of coffee. There’s a lot of overthinking here.
